Accounting Manager

This position will be working within the Accounting & Finance department, reporting to the Controller.


  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day accounting activities, including AP, AR, full cycle G/L accounting, and payroll functions, with a focus on the unique aspects of the solar/construction industry.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, while considering industry-specific revenue recognition and cost accounting requirements.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain cost accounting systems to accurately track costs, revenues, and profitability of solar installation projects.
  • Coordinate with Ops teams to ensure accurate and timely billing, cost tracking, and revenue recognition for ongoing projects.
  • Manage and review intercompany transactions and reconciliations between different entities within our organization, ensuring accurate recording and elimination of intercompany balances.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, analyzing project profitability and identifying trends and potential risks.
  • Perform cost accounting analysis to identify and control project-related expenses, monitor budget adherence, and provide insights for decision-making and project estimation processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue and expenses, and facilitate interdepartmental communication to support project success.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing management with regular reports and recommendations for improvement, including KPI’s. 
  • Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior to senior accounting staff. Share knowledge and expertise to foster professional growth and development within the team.
  • Stay updated with changes in accounting regulations and standards, and ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant guidelines.
  • Assist the Controller in tax filings.
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and recognize unnecessary expenses.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting function. Streamline processes, implement automation, and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist the Controller in FP&A functions including budgeting, forecasting, and long term strategic planning.
  • Assist the Controller as needed, and responding to financial information requests by the Leadership team.
  • Protecting the organization’s value by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Complying with company policies and procedures.

To be successful in this position you will need to be a quick learner, self-driven, organized, multi-tasker, and be able to communicate effectively with our team.


  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years of progressive experience in accounting, with hands-on experience. Experience in FP&A preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team management experience, including the ability to lead and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and ability to analyze project financial data.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must work well on a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting is required.
  • Solid understanding of financial controls, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP.
  • Payroll experience preferred.
  • Experience with multiple subsidiaries/intercompany is required.



  • NetSuite knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency required.

Robert’s experience as a newspaper editor as well as his involvement with the sustainability-focused Rocky Mountain Institute drives him to constantly seek out innovative ways to meet energy needs through renewable resources as well as helps him share those ideas with Southern California homeowners. When not at work or volunteering time with his church or community, Robert spends time with his wife and two sons or pursues his passion of fly fishing.
